City Showcase Tournament and Symposium

Tournament Dates: Friday, April 14 & Saturday, April 15, 2017 Optional College Symposium and 4v4 Tourney: Thursday April 13, 2017
The City Showcase Tournament and Symposium provides strong competition, exposure to college soccer recruitment, and information on college access (from both an educational and athletic standpoint) for youth soccer teams and players from the New York metropolitan area and beyond. The event places particular emphasis on providing inner city and minority youth, who are underrepresented in higher education and college soccer, a platform to reach college. At the same time, the event welcomes teams and players from beyond the city and across the region each year. Last year, featured 96 U15-U19 teams from four states and Canada. Over 80 college coaches registered to attend. The City Showcase Tournament is a partnership between South Bronx United and Downtown United Soccer Club.

Open to Boys and Girls Teams, U15 – U20 (Birth Year Age Groups: 1997-2002)
Priority Deadline: March 5th

Application Instructions: 1. Apply:
Fill out the application form on GotSoccer. You will receive an automatically generated email once you submit the registration.

2. Payment:
The Early Registration Fee is $595. Early Registration must be completed by January 27th. The Regular Registration Fee is $690 Teams serving primarily low-income youth, may be eligible for a lower fee. See below.
Payment will only be accepted by Credit Card or E-check: Enter payment information upon checkout on GotSoccer. Application is complete.
Payments will not be processed until the team is accepted. Teams can request for the tournament to wait until a specific date to process payment. If so, please email showcase@southbronxunited.org.

3. Acceptance:
Teams will be notified of acceptance beginning on December 15, 2016. Payments will be charged upon acceptance.

Application for Fee Assistance: The City Showcase Tournament strives to provide a platform for low-income youth and demographic groups underrepresented in higher education and college soccer. If the fee presents a significant hardship, your team may be eligible for a Discounted Fee. To be eligible, your club must (1) serve majority low-income youth, (2) charge minimal or no participation fees for its players, and (3) demonstrate that no other funding sources are available to cover tournament participation. Hotel Information:

Required Documents:
  • GotSoccer Roster: Complete team roster on GotSoccer. The most important information to include is player name, jersey number, and grade. Roster should be completed by March 17, 2017.
  • Upload Official Roster: Please upload a copy of your official league or state roster to gotsoccer.com, under "City Showcase" and "Documents" tab. Keep a copy of this roster with you at every game.
  • Upload Player Passes: Please upload a copy of the front of each player pass for every player competing in the tournament. Upload to gotsoccer.com, under "City Showcase" and "Documents" tab. Keep a copy of these passes with you at every game.
  • Upload Guest Player Passes: Please upload a copy of the front of each guest player pass for every player competing in the tournament to showcase@southbronxunited.org. Keep a copy of these passes with you at every game. Keep a copy of the medical release form. Write the guest player name on the official roster copy and add them to your GotSoccer roster. 3 guest players max.
  • Upload Waiver: Sign and upload the tournament waiver. Download waiver here. Waivers can be presented on the first day of the tournament.
  • Medical Release Forms: Team must bring a signed Medical Release Form for every participating player. Please use your appropriate US Club Soccer or US Youth Soccer Medical Release Form. (Notary section is not necessary.)
  • Permission To Travel Form: Required only for US Youth Soccer Teams outside of Region 1. Canadian teams must also have a completed form from its Provincial or National Association approving the team’s participation in the tournament and proof of insurance.

Tournament Check-In:
  • Tournament Check-In: Every team must check in at the City Showcase Registration Table at field 71 or field 82 on the morning of the tournament, at least 1 hour prior to their first game. Bring all player passes and documents required above as a precaution. However, document submission should occur online prior to the first day in order to speed up morning registration.

  • City Showcase Symposium
    They 2017 City Showcase Symposium will feature small group workshops with experts covering topics from college recruitment to student life to financial aid. During the symposium, tournament participants can also compete in a 4v4 indoor tournament, a FIFA video game tournament, and gain information from college coaches, athletes, and other services.

    The City Showcase Symposium is back in a new format after a one year hiatus. Since 2014, the event has been free to all youth and parents participating in the City Showcase Tournament Former speakers have included Claudio Reyna, Sporting Director for New York City FC and a University of Virginia graduate; Ryan Meara, Goalkeeper for New York City FC and a Fordham University graduate; a number of college coaches and college admissions officers. This year, Parents and student-athletes must register in advance for specific workshops. Players can also register for the 4v4 tournament or FIFA tournament.

    Games will be played during from sunrise to sunset on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15 of Easter Weekend. (Most schools have a holiday on Friday.) We have a limited ability to work around schedules for teams with Friday conflicts. If you have a school or religious conflict please contact us upon registration.

    GotSoccer Rosters
    It is also important to make sure all team rosters and profiles are updated on GotSoccer by a week prior to the event. College coaches will be using this information for recruitment purposes.

    Since CaptainU was founded in 2008, over 2 million high school athletes have used their platform to promote themselves to college programs. Currently, over 3,000 athletes commit to colleges each month using CaptainU. Their networking platform provides players and parents a tool to manage the college recruiting process and maximize their exposure to college coaches at the upcoming tournament.     Next Gen USA
    Next Gen USA is the official Scouting partner of the City Showcase Tournament. Director of College Programming and former Columbia University coach Kevin McCarthy will be on site during the tournament and available to provide college and recruitment advice to aspiring college athletes. He will also lead a workshop at the City Showcase Symposium on April 13th.

    Game Video:

    Coach’s Corner NYC is excited to join the 2017 City Showcase. We will be providing Game Film for interested High School Showcase teams and players playing at Randalls Island. We have filmed over 120 games the past year for teams and coaches of all ages to use for game analysis and as highlight videos for the college bound player.

    For teams, Coach’s Corner provides a link that will enable coaches and players to download the game video and have a hard copy. Coach’s corner also provides game videos on thumb drives if requested. As an additional service, Coach’s Corner can provide highlight footage of the team or player. We can also help create a highlight reel from tournament footage and any additional requested footage.

    College Coach Registration
    For all coaches confirmed to attend, we will provide team rosters with all player information, tournament schedules and field information. Lunch will also be provided for all college coaches. We are happy to answer any specific questions you may have. Coaches staying from out of town are also welcome to book accommodations using our reserved group rates.

    South Bronx United first hosted the College Showcase Tournament on Easter Weekend in 2010 at Macombs Dam Field. The next year, the event moved to Randalls Island. In 2014, Downtown United Soccer Club (DUSC) partnered with South Bronx United to create the City Showcase Tournament. In 2015, the event attracted 96 boys and girls teams from New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Canada and over 90 college coaches registered to attend. The Student-Athlete Symposium has been held at Baruch College for the past two years. It has featured guest speakers including former USA Men’s National Team Captain Claudio Reyna and New York City FC player and Fordham University graduate Ryan Meara and panelists varying from admissions officers to college coaches at all levels.
